The Hells Canyon Run
This event is held on the Snake River in the Hells Canyon National Recreation
Area in mid-September. The focal point is a 55 mile round-trip run down the Snake River
from Pittsburg Landing to the confluence of the Salmon River and return. The “official” run is
on Saturday, but many members arrive a day or two early to fish or just relax. Most folks
stay at Pittsburg Landing campground for the event. The Saturday run commences
around 9:00 a.m. and as a rule most participants have returned by 5:00 p.m. Saturday night the WWA hosts
a complementary steak dinner and typically, a couple of the more gracious members treat the
crowd to an ice cream social.
This is not an overly technical run, but there are several crucial areas where proper diligence is in order.
