The Payette River Roundup

This run is held on the Main Payette River in west central Idaho, and it is customarily scheduled in mid-May.  Occassionally, the launch is made at Black Canyon Reservoir near the town of Emmett.  However, most years, the launch takes place up river, above the town of Horseshoe Bend.  The run destination is Banks, Idaho near the confluence of the North and South forks of the Payette.  This event can be one or two days depending on water levels.  Participants head up river around 9:00 a.m. and most are back at the launch by 1:00 p.m.  Ordinarily, one or two dozen boats make the run.

This run is quite technical and some parts are considered to be very difficult.  Several rapids - Harvey's, Turnout, and Landslide - can present some big water at higher streamflows.  The run is not recommended for members who are new to whitewater jetboating.
