2005 Chili Run

The Western Whitewater Association hosts an annual Chili Run in late February on the Snake River below Swan Falls Dam.

The 2005 run was held on Sunday, February 27--a balmy winter day with a crystal blue sky, a gentle breeze, and a temperature of nearly 60 degrees.  River flow was just under 7,000 cfs.  Thirty-nine boats launched, ran up the river, and all but one returned to the dock unscathed.  One boat had an encounter with one of those not-readily-apparent, mid-channel obstacles for which this stretch of the river is so notorious.  However, the chili entrees were outstanding, the crowd was even better, and it all added up to another super fine day on the river.
