2006 Hells Canyon Run
The 2006 run was held on the weekend of September 16 & 17 down at
Pittsburg Landing on the Snake River in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. This event
was one of the biggest ever for the WWA. By Thursday morning the lower Pittsburg Landing
campground was almost full and by that evening it was packed. By Friday afternoon both the upper
camping area and the parking lot above the ramp were bulging with campers and jetboats. On
Saturday, Forest Service personnel at the ramp indicated an unofficial launch count of 73 boats.
Many of the boaters made the 55 mile round-trip run down river to the confluence of the Salmon
River and back. Others headed up river to fish, enjoy the scenery, or have a go at the rapids in
the wild section. Saturday night the WWA hosted a steak dinner and
club members rounded out the menu with potluck dishes. |
